Create an accountThe Mini Klunker
Klunker builds are about having fun, but this little ripper has taken things to a new level.
If you can't crack a smile when you pop a little wheelie on this then you must have problems that bikes simply can't solve.
A compromise between utility and style when we discussed mudguards, and that extra bit of budget went on a bling and dazzlingly bright front dynamo light by SON instead. Fair enough, right?
And there is still just about enough room (sort of) to fit a pair of 60mm guards around these insanely light tubeless ready Schwable Rocket Rons (2.25" front and rear), once the rain starts to comes down. But for now the combination of these tyres with the Velo Orange Klunker handlebar looks incredible.
Of course we recommended the indestructable KNAR wheels from Sentient Works, which means that tubeless is not possible on this rim set. But the trade off between durability and installing tubeless on a cargo bike had to be made. It is possible to get a tubeless rear wheel, but for now we cannot get a matching pair of tubeless ready rims for 20" and 29". However hey are coming later this year, we have been told! So perhaps we will see some fully tubeless cargo builds happening.
As usual, we routed the dynamo wiring neatly inside the fork leg, and kept it as clean as possible without drilling too many holes in the frame-set. There is always scope with steel frames to put a few extra holes in strategic places to enable cleaner cable routing, but we wanted to see if the customer had any strong opinions on the setup before doing something that can't be undone.
We know that the Blurple paint splits opinions, but in this case we think it's the chef's kiss to an already supremely rad build.
The customer is a keen climber, so we are sure this bike will be a trusty partner on some off the beaten track adventures, but still fit nicely into a train vestibule, or boot of a car when the trip is further afield than you might prefer to cycle.
