The Honour Bike Couriers Titanium Cargo

Honour Bike (@honourbike) and Paradise go way back.

Benji started getting his bike repaired by me & Louis in 2012 when he was just starting out as a messenger in the golden era of London Cycle Courier-ing.

Job after job, exhausting day after exhausting day, and bitter winter after bitter winter, Benji has established himself as a true legend of the courier scene. He provides invaluable support and organisation to many Ally Cat races and associated events in the capital. He started his own firm of couriers (Honour Bike) to support a growing list of regular business clients. And in recent years he has stuck with the slowly dying messenger scene, and is keeping the legend of the cycle courier alive. If you need a safe pair of hands to deliver something rapidly in London, then you still can't improve of the service that a experienced & friendly courier provides.

Why the Titanium Cargo?

The decision was not random. Benji has painstakingly and thoroughly proved it to himself that this was the bike he needed all along, after trying all the other options.

Looking back

Starting out on an old mountain bike, and quickly progressing to a single-speed (like so many others), he purchased his first Omnium 9 years ago, with a matt black Mini V1! This little workhorse was immediately pushed past its limit, and it took several years before it was inevitably replaced with a matt black Mini-Max Classic with a 5 speed Sturmey Archer hub. This Mini-Max has lasted a long time, as a key part of a fleet along side a couple of Larry Vs Harry Bullitt's. The Mini-Max was the go-to medium-duty option for getting through town fast, and without too much extra weight to get moving.

Time for a dream build!

It wasn't until 2022 that the idea of building a dream bike took hold. A Rohloff 14 speed hub, with Gates Carbon belt drive, and a titanium frameset was the plan, and a damn good one if we do say so ourselves.

The frame arrived in the UK in late 2023, and the build started in spring of 2024 once all the parts had been sourced, and funds had been raised.

Cargo Titanium Rohloff

It was a long time coming, but this bike was well worth the wait.

Deliberately setup for daily use and abuse.

Features:

  • Lighter than the steel Mini-Max. Titanium is lighter than chromoly steel, and without any paint the weight saving is considerable.
  • Internal cable routing (only available on the Titanium V3IR range). These frames weren't designed around dynamo & Rohloff cabling, but with a bit of drilling here, and heat shrink there, we have achieved a fantastically clean install of all the cabling.
  • Static shifting at traffic lights, and exceptional low-maintenance is possible, with a super wide range of gears thanks to the fine folks at Rohloff. Oil is changed every 2,500km. That's about it.
  • Quiet, clean and smooth power transmission that you can only get from a Gates Carbon Belt.
  • Lots of stopping power with a set of mix'n'match Shimano brakes. This system is ubiquitous & simple to repair anywhere you go.
  • Daytime running lights, with an integrated rear LED, and extremely bright Supernova front light, driven by our preferred dynamo hub (Shutter Precision PD6).
  • Bulletproof hand-built wheels & cargo specification tyres keep things rolling.
